Indicators for reduction of road congession and pollution:

1) 30% less volume of vehicles on Delhi roads easing out road traffic.

2) 40% less sale of petrol & diesel leading to less combustion of fuel resulting in lower emission of harmful particles.

3) travelling time reduced to 40-50% leading to unproductive time and energy saving and better time management.

4) public transport not over crowded. DMRC also claimed the peak hour rush manageable. This shows that our public transport is not so bad as to deny any positive experiment. However, it has miles to go before calling it adequate.

5) strenghtend the belief that the Govt., the law enforcers and the public is willing to work together if truely meant for social cause and welfare. This reaffirms the belief that people is willing to forego little comfort if this improves quality of life in the long run. In the past also, Janata has happily tolerated traffic hardships at the time of CNG conversion, metro construction and flyover construction which have given great relief to common man in return.

5) Repairing of 600 Km roads have also contributed to the cause.

Before implementing next odd-even, the Govt/ police must work together to:

a) arrange for 20% increase in public transport facility

b) ensure all diesel commercial cabs/ taxis conversion into CNG by 31/03/2016, as ordered by SC

c) ensure cleaning of all major roads by vacum dust sucking cleaner as is already being done at Dwarka.

d) ensure rigorous implementation of SC orders regarding ban on heavy commercial vehicles entry from other states.

e) restricting polluting construction sites beyond norms by leving fines as per SC order.

f) installing 110 new CNG filling stations at NCR by 31/03/2016 as committed by the Central Govt.

e) bring 2-wheelers and women driven cars under its ambit.

I am sure that above measures, if taken effectively, are bound to yield positive and desired results. more

Odd-even rule has put Delhi in self-discipline which is required. This process should continue. We all should think about sharing/pooling for country's benefit. more
The ODD/EVEN has shown that when required...... Dilliwalla's heart will win.... in the end..... However..... this is just an "emergency" joker that the Govt. now has for these "emergencies" only... let us not make "rationing" of roads..... a Dilli, State or National policy..... I believe India has suffered enough due to such thinking in the past..... so while we should not consume and waste irressponsibly, which comes out of personal values and beliefs, one must restrict rationing for "emergencies" only. Next time....perhaps the Govt should "request the people" to follow the ODD/EVEN (or other) options... by leading from the front (NO EXCEPTIONS FOR VIPS, WOMEN, etc.... please.. and hope The President of India will lead... from the front..... Only if the plea is ignored..... fines, punitive actions, etc.... can follow..... This is what Lal Bahadur Shastri did in the 1960's by launching his "miss a meal" plea to the nation, when India was plagued with food shortages and had to "beg for food overseas". With him and other leaders at the helm..... the WHOLE nation, from coast to coast, followed. This "short term" measure followed by appealing directly to the farmers (Jai Jawan) to increase food profuction..... in one/two short years a "food importing" nation became self sufficient..... and the rest is.... history. This is also what is required to "fight pollution"..... the ODD/EVEN plea/fix must be followed by pollution reducing measures.... like car pooling, conversion to cleaner fuels (CNG, etc) followed by electric vehicles (now why did the Congress Govt. in Delhi ban e-rickshaws.... no payoff to politicians...???) and eventually to solar power for transportation and ALL electricity consumption and plea to farmers/others to stop burning agricultural waste, etc... (time for Jai Jawan... again...???).... May the force be with you...... ALL more
I repeat below my suggestions earlier made: (1) Impose a fine of Rs,2,000/- on any vehicles with less than the full capacity of any vehice (e.g., a Tata Indica car carrying less than five passengers inccluding the driver (2) Trucks should ply within the city of Delhi only as Trawlers o Battery-0perated or CNG-operated or electrically operated vehicles (3) Buses may also be operated using electricity or CNG or Batteries. (4) Offices that do not need to interact with other Offices as a normal part of their daily operation (e.g., Training Establishments, Administrative offices like Regional Offices) may be given some incentive to be relocated outside Delhi more
opposite # car should be allowed if it is carrying 3 or more passengers,,,, this would allow car pooling .... control on TAXIS is must... they pollute and never follow traffic rules... This ODD- EVEN Must continue.. its a great success... CONGRATS to DELHI GOVT !! BUT they need to still control :: 1/ Waste burning , 2/ dust from construction sites, 3/ road side dust / unfinished construction work.. more
I think it is inapproprite to blame HC since when ther is any PIL ( in this case there are as many as 8 PILs), it is a procedure to call for the explainations. I am sure that after hearing plea from the Govt. and considering the wholehearted support from SC, HC will decide in favor of odd-even experiment as scheduled. more
