LG seeks Centre's opinion on AAP govt's probe into CNG fitness scam

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has approached the Centre seeking its opinion on the AAP government's decision to conduct a probe into the CNG fitness scam, in which a number of officials of the erstwhile Sheila Dikshit regime were under the scanner.

In a communication, the LG apprised the Centre of setting up of a Commission of Inquiry, to be headed by a retired high court judge, to probe the alleged multi-crore CNG fitness scam by the Arvind Kejriwal government, and sought the opinion on whether the city government has the jurisdiction to do so.

Sources said that the central government will revert to the LG after obtaining legal opinion.

The one-man probe panel, being set up under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, will investigate all aspects of the scam. It will be headed by Justice (Retd.) S N Agarwal, a former judge of Delhi and Madhya Pradesh High Courts.

The AAP has been accusing Jung of trying to shield the officers found guilty by a CBI probe into the scam which was detected by Delhi Government's Anti-Corruption Branch in 2012.

The CNG fitness scam surfaced in 2012 when ACB found that the Delhi government had lost over Rs 100 crore by awarding the contract to operate and maintain certification of CNG vehicles at the transport authority in Burari to ESP India Private Limited, instead of ESP USA.

In June, when the AAP government had directed ACB to reopen the case, the LG's office, rejecting criticism against him, had said the Justice Mudgal Committee which had probed the case found "no mala fide" on the part of any government functionary.

Incompetent people catapulted to important positions are the biggest hurdles in the path of progress. Such people have no merit except to suck up to their masters for their own aspirations. more
Yes, it is sad on the act of LG, but best action by Mr AK to curb corruption. It is a bold step taken by Mr AK after conducting audit of electric companies. Please tell them to keep it up and on. more
Ordering a probe in CNG fitness scam is a best step of Mr AK Govt . I am sure that it will help in curbing the corruption in India. more
Our Lt Governor is hand in glove of the Central Government. He has no opinion of his own. Such person are hardly find capable who seeks opinion on each and every work. He is loosing his credibility but by doing so he is making efforts to protect his service. Hence, I do not agree that this is a wise step of Lt Governor. Ram Yadav more
It is a good effort made by Sri Kejariwal. This will certainly highlight the role of Sheila Dix it govt and role of LG in the scam.LG approach to the Central Govt loses credibility of LG.One act is immoral for a political Party and the same act becomes moral in the eye of the other party. Thus, never ending of corruption. Moreover ,this will happen The centre will rarely permit . LG will then not allow and the matter will go to higher courts. If under court direction investigation is made only then any fruitful result may come. With lapse of time proofs are hidden/destroyed and after all result goes almost nil and wastage of money goes in vein.Let us watch what happens .But the action of our CM is bold and praiseworthy.Besides he should care much of Delhite within one year of mandate. more
