I agree with Mr. Vivek Lal's views on the pitiable condition of Indian Railways. In fact I would like to suggest that we don't even need to look outside. Just see the finesse with which Mr. E. Sridharan has made the country proud by making Delhi Metro such a roaring success. I would like to see all the previous Railway Ministers to be called on Satyamev Jayate & made to answer some really tough questions comparing the damage they had done to the Indian Railways against the unbelievable eloquence that DMRC carries!
Why only speed? What about hygiene? Zee news has recently conducted a sting exposing the pathetic condition of the food cooked in the Pantry Cars of most of the Trains :( Its a horrible sight!!!
What about the risk of Theft & Burglaries? You would find all sorts of unauthorized people getting in & out of the Indian Trains at their will!!! Be it the Hijras indulging in force extorting from the gullible passengers / Be it the Beggars, the Hawkers & even unlawful elements!!! All the Railway Stations are quite dirty to even look at!
Whereas none of this is a problem for DMRC! The Delhi Metro coaches are soooo neat & clean & even the stations too! And no risk of any unauthorized entry at all!!!
It would be a great service to the nation if Mrr. E. Sridharan can be given independent charge of modernizing & privatizing the Indian Railways :) more

yes mr. vikakas sharmaa, i am agreed with your all points,and i would say initiated with the general people , improvement job then it may effort to bring the up gradation and all. educate people "how to utilize the train- compartment, what else disciplines are require", other wise it is all in vein. more

FULLY AGREE WITH THE VIEWS AND SUGGESTION. AT THE VERY SAME TIME THERE IS AN URGENT NEED FOR CHNGE IN THE CULTURE IN RLY AS AN ORGANIZATION. FIRST OF ALL WHAT IS THE NEED FOR A SEPERATE BUDGET FOR RLYS. WHY CANNOT IT BE WITH IN THE GENERAL BUDGET AND MAKE THE RALYS ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL ACTIVITIES. FURTHER REVIEW ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS IN THE RLYS AND MAKE IT MORE PRATICAL & CUSTOMER FRIENDLY. RLY SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE AS A SERVICE PROVIDER AND NOT BEHAVE LIKE A MASTER AND TREAT THE CUSTOMERS AS SERVANTS. REGARDS, SMP more
