When Kejriwal fought against Shiela Dikshit, he won due to a) his risk taking ability, b) various scandals of corruption against cong and Mrs Dikshit and c) anti-incumbency factor. Hence, he won. Also, it was do or die election for AAP.

But pitting Kejriwal against Modi from Varansi, AAP has very little to gain and more to lose. Firstly, Modi is not considered corrupt person although leading a party having candidates known for corruption and criminal involvement. Secondly, anti-incumbency factor is missing here. Rather, BJP is likely to emerge as largest party. Thirdly, Modi is fighting from the a seat from UP which is as safe as any one in Gujarat.

BJP has made chakraviyuh for AAP, b'coz if Kejriwal loses from Varansi, morale of AAP will be down when contesting for Delhi assembly election later on, which is the first priority for AAP, being the birth place for the party. more

All of supporters not most of supporters believe that eradication of corruption is not the priority of either BJP or Congress. They are happy in status quo as it helps and suites them more
Ashish and Anudeep, we are forgetting that most of the AAP supporters are those who knew that neither BJP nor Cong/ any other party can do good to the nation and common man but voted less culprit, in their opinion, out of the options available. more
Anu - you are grossly mistaken and facts are otherwise. 65 % of votes were casted in Delhiin Dec 13. It was just 7-8 % up from 2009. AAP got 28% of 65 % ie. 18% of total votes of Delhi. Even if all new voters ( 7-8 % ) were first timer then remaining 10 % should be followers of existing parties. we ( self and score of my friends and relatives) have contributed funds and voted for AAP and we were voting for some other parties earlier. more
@ Ashish , Having been to fundraisers for AAP, I can say that most of the AAP supporters are those who have never bothered to vote , and even those who never ever donated for politics in life alongwith those who consciously voted for Congress or BJP because they didnt wanted party to loot too much after 1 term. Its a matter of faith in principles of Honest Politics. more
dear Shiv, it is everybody 's mental status which guide him/ her in a particular way. We must have enough courage and strength to face challenge , diverse view and opposition. Tough time ahead is indicated for all the people having faith and belief in AAP and AAP itself. Hope support and faith will remain intact after result of general election. My fear is based on my understanding that most of AAP ( including self) were supporting either congress or BJP or any other party before advent / formation of AAP. more
