Based on some of the recent posts/comments, we would like to once again seek your inputs on various issues you are facing with income tax department when it comes to bribery, corruption and extortion when you are under scrutiny or have a demand issued against you or your business.

By making submission of income Tax Returns online mandatory and Centralised Processing Centre, the process of filing the returns, their processing and refunds of excess tax paid, if any, has become very easy and smooth. as far as individual income tax returns are concerned. Since there is no need now for a mediator for the purpose, the instances of any bribe and or parting a certain percentage of refundable amount has become 'nil' as per my experience. As far as the returns of the professionals, businesses and the corporate houses are concerned, there should not be any need to pay bribe to any one any more unless the assessees indulge in the practice of tax evasion. more

Just concentrate on fixing Agricultural Income and those who benefit from this head; I am sure it will be a monumental move. more

As an individual I do not have any experience of corruption in Income Tax Department, but inaction is in abundence. There is no inter connectivity between different softwares of the department, say CPC Bangalore and Local Assessing Officers softwares. It causes inordinate delay in solving tax payer problem. Each passes the buck to other. I am struggling for a refund of Rs 18820 since last more than one year, which has been wrongly adjusted against outstanding demand. Though correction order u/s 154 passed monthts ago but refund is still to be paid. Though I personally met AO 4 times and wrote more than 10 letters including nearly 8 e-Nivarans. more
