Garbage collection/Management is very poor. When the storm water drains are de- silted, the stinking silt and garbage is stacked on the road for days .Ideally the collection Van should be present whenever the cleaning /de-silting is undertaken to lift the remnants immediately. This is never done
Hope some one from solid waste management of BMC reads this and take appropriate actions against the culprits who tarnish the image of SWM. Citizens are really grateful to Air India sports club for providing excellent ground facility and jogging track in Kalina and Vakola area at very nominal cost.Off late it is observed that solid waste generated at the ground is daily burnt at the entrance behind security chowky creating air pollution on entire ground. The situation is aggravated by another culprit P& T colony adjoining sports ground on south side who also burn solid waste of the colony. At both the places solid waste containing plastic bottles, glasses ,jars ,plates etc is burnt. Plastic such as PVC (polyvinylchloride) is common in bottles and jugs, glasses plates , plastic packaging and blister packs, etc when burnt create air pollution / black smoke comprising of carbon monoxide, dioxins and furans. These poisonous gasses are released into ground air. Whilst carbon monoxide is a pretty well known poison, dioxins and furans when inhaled , studies have linked , dioxins and furans to cancer and respiratory disease. While doing pranayam one can easily experience the inhalation of burnt gasses.
Kalpana Rangan (Chembur) The housing societies ( on ghatla Village Road) in the area are still not segregating garbage. Hence effective garbage management is not being carried out.
