Below are the key issues as outlined by you with the current role of Ward Councillor. Kindly review them and please suggest what are the things that the Ward Councillor should be doing. We will then work with the relevant stakeholders to see how the role can be augmented and defined.

Swachh Bharat Mission

Issues with the current role of Ward Councillor

1. Once a councillor gets elected, he forgets all the promises he had made
2. Councillors lack a roadmap of the cleanliness activities planned in the area
3. They have a very opaque way of working
4. The implementation of new cleanliness initiatives is very slow
5. Interaction with public to generate new ideas and increase coordination is mostly missing
6. A major part of the cleanliness funds are lost to corrupt practices
7. People are not fully aware of the responsibilities of a ward councillor
8. Many ward councillors shrug off maintenance work and only take on new work
9. Their reachability for residents in case of need is a big issue
10. Ward councillors treat their job as a base to go higher with their political ambitions and not look at it as a public service role. more

Ward councillor is interested in generating income than Swachha Bharat activity. more
yes, to ensure accountability, 360 degree feedback and appraisal would be the tools and the same should be available on the ward page ( a site should be created for the residents of the respective ward. ) more
Governance is not controlling but enabling. Every town should have a Mohalla Vikas Samiti where no one holds any post they be just members. Let them decide their agenda & just keep rewarding these Units by recognising them for their achievements, of their work, if it is as per National objectives, otherwise just ignore them. This is a typical management practice where we encourage initiatives. Sanjay Rastogi. Varanasi. more
MCD in Delhi is under BJP and it not doing enough for Clean India mission of PM.It is jock of national policy. Why PM is not pulling up MCD Commissioner? Why different standard of performance for NDMC and MCD?who is going to question MCD? Residents are paying for services of MCD but it unfortunate MCD officers do not realise. more
Ward Councillor should be accountable to residents of ward and not to Mayor ( who is also accountable to residents of city). He should obtain a letter of satisfaction for his services from RWAs Presidents in his ward.RWAs are real Auditors of Councillor . more
