Widening the underpass of NH24 near Shipra Mall

People living in Indirapuram should have experienced the heavy traffic congestion in the underpass of NH24 near Shipra Mall / Krishna Apra Apartments. Heavy traffic congestion is experienced between 8.30 am and 10.30 am in the morning and between 5.30 pm and 8.00 pm in the evening. This congestion is caused by the narrowness of the underpass. The underpass allows only two small cars (say two Maruti Alto cars) to move in the opposite directions. If a Maruti Alto (small) and a Mahindra Xylo (big) reach the underpass from the opposite directions, then a car has to wait till the other one passes the underpass. This is because the underpass cannot allow two big cars to move simultaneously in the opposite directions. This causes a long queue of vehicles on either side of the underpass causing total traffic congestion in the area including the neighbouring roads. Things become worse when cyclists, 2 wheelers and manual rikshaws get mixed up in the traffic. Even pedestrians find it difficult to cross the underpass in such situations. It is needless to say that a lot of time and petrol is wasted in this underpass for many years. Making another underpass a furlong away has not yielded satisfactory results.
If the underpass is widened by half a metre on either side, the traffic congestion could be completely eliminated. With the present day technologies and capabilities in Civil Engineering, it will be possible to widen the underpass, I believe. Can residents of Indirapuram mobilize their opinion so as to get the underpass widened? Can the Civil Engineers in the Local Circles opine the possibility of widening the underpass? Can we approach the authorities to widen the underpass?

If the group can get this underpass widened, it will be a great achievement. Our aim should be widening the underpass by another one metre and construction of a separate very narrow underpass for pedestrians to use. more

That is there due to nearby 3C office. But its impact is minimum. Major impact is due to overtaking. Just experiment the lane driving for few days and you will notice the difference. Further please provide the review after the experiment. more
Dear Sumit Sir, My comment is no way to offend people using this underpass but if you see the roads post underpass towards Noida side you your self can see how congested roads are due to haphazard parking and hardly any space for vehicles to move. Widening of the roads may further lead to congestion of already narrow road(left after parking) and may also lead to wrong side driving. more
Dear Dhananjay - Their are various persons who lives in Indirapuram/ Vasundhara like me and works in Delhi like Sarita Vihar, Faridabad and who has to travel via Shipra . Its not possible to commute from Metro and they need personal vehicles to go to those places. @ Saurabh - Underpass does not have any designated lanes for a separate kind of vehicles. Even if the vehicles go in line irrespective of the nature the chaos/ problem will be solved and their will be saving of time as the main reason for the jam at Shipra underpass is the overtaking of the vehicles. If everybody comes in line then the main problem of shipra underpass will be solved. more
There should be designated pedestrian/bicycle way currently it become unsafe with all the big vehicles in crowded places such as Indirapuram more
Dear Dhananjay, I appreciate your comments. I do not belong to Ghaziabad. I am temporarily put up here. I made this post here because I could not see a post in the forum on this very demanding need. I walk 4 km every morning and evening, 5 days a week from Indirapuram to attend the office in NOIDA. I need only 30 minutes for reaching the office. If I take my car I need only 10 minutes to reach the office but in the evening I am caught in the traffic and I need one hour to cover this 4 km. So I always walk, which I like doing. Everything depends on the thoughts of the people. If people can think the way you do, it will be wonderful. Who will initiate a movement that you have suggested? We only! But can we? Another initiative I had thought was to make Indirapuram a plastic free zone. Every evening, I go to the vegetable market and persuade people not to use polythene bags to buy vegetables. But my Hindi is very poor and people do not like my advice. When I tell old people (carrying multiple plastic covers) that the surroundings were not dirty like this in our childhood, they look at me as a nuisance. Who wants to avoid the comfort and convenience of polythene bags? Who cares for the environment? Then what can I do for the environment? Thanks Sumit Saraf for your thoughts on the subject. more
