Why no red label on brain damaging products like Coke and Pepsi

Why is the Government not putting front of the pack red labels on drinks like pepsi and coke. 10 year olds are drinking 5-6 glasses in a birthday party.

Drinking Coca-Cola or Pepsi: This is what happens to the body:

— In the first 10 minutes: about 10 teaspoons of sugar (the maximum recommended daily dose) are taken into the body. At this point, you won't feel sick from excess sugar because phosphoric acid dulls the excessive sweetness, allowing the sugar to be absorbed.

— After 20 minutes: blood sugar increases, which leads to the release of insulin. The liver responds by converting sugar into fat.

— After 40 minutes: caffeine absorption is complete. Pupils dilate, blood pressure rises, and the liver begins to release more sugar into the bloodstream. Adenosine receptors in the brain are blocked, thus preventing drowsiness.

— After 45 minutes: the production of dopamine, a hormone that stimulates the pleasure center of the brain, increases. Heroin works on the same principle.

— After an hour: phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in the intestines, increasing metabolism. Increases the excretion of calcium in the urine.

— More than an hour later: the diuretic effect of caffeine takes effect, and you need to go to the toilet. Calcium, magnesium, and zinc, which are so necessary for bones, are excreted, as well as sodium, electrolyte, and water. You become irritable or lethargic.

— So much harm in one can... Just imagine what will happen if you drink cola every day.
— It is better to drink water, natural, freshly squeezed juices and sugar-free tea. more

Only public awareness through visible data and results can make an impact. These are to be widely published through paper/Electronic media. more
All said and done about Coke and Pepsi, they could be enjoyed occassionally possibly without any adverse effects. But then statutary warnings and Red labels on them could be made compulsory to restrict their intake. more
Your points are quite valid, but what a government can do in such matters. There are doubts that only creating awareness may also not be of any help. We all know that there is a warning printed on each packets of Cigarette, Tobacco and people are well aware of this, but users neglect the warnings and frequently using such products i.e. Cigarettes and Tobacco. Banning a product can also not solve the problem which will increase black marketing and adulteration, we see, Bihar Got a ban on liquor but people kept dying by using adulterated liquor. We are also aware that drugs are harmful, but people use drugs poisons (snake venom) for release of a little bit of dopamine in blood. What a more surprising thing can it be than, that, these products are sold / available in the market for more than 40 years and we know that these products are extremely dangerous for health but these products are frequently used by people? Certainly side effects mentioned, are well known to marketers and additionally they also knew decades ago that before creating side effects, they increase a feel good factor in consumer which is increasing sales in market. I believe that reading your article will increase the sales further, as people will add some more glasses in their consumption in curiosity to see how the use of heroin or release of dopamine feels like. I do not use these products for more than 15 years but see people using it. What we think LC can do in this field? more
All objections you have raised are quite valid Ms Chabra. However, there is a Government advisory on cigarette packets and alcohol bottles/packages too. Does anyone care about it? I suggest that instead of expecting the "Government" to do these, let each one of us in the Local Circles raise the awareness in our micro circles. I am sure this will slowly snowball into a much larger effect and eventually, these companies will withdraw these products. I have not seen/heard anyone minding the socalled warning messages at any time. Further, democracy is not only for and of the people but also BY the people. We are ALL part of the governing process and let us do out bit with passion. This will surely bring about a change. more
fssai and other govt agencies wake up only when some foreign country report it is not good otherwise these people are not concerned about out health and as someonementioned are sleeping all the time like kumbakarna and wake up once in six months more
