Why Government wants to bail Vodafone Idea

f the Government is so eager to give ₹84,000 crore in relief to Vodafone-Idea, let's first deduct that amount from the personal wealth of its founders, board of directors, and the management who ran it into the ground.

If that doesn't cover it, let’s top it off from the pockets of the politicians who let this happen and probably cashed out on the way.

The middle class didn’t mismanage a telecom company, why should they pay the bill? more

Govt should not give any money to telecom operators including BSML and MNTL. Let them work and survive. Make sure there is no unfair trade practice by any big fish. more
Duopoly or monopoly....Indian laws must not allow wrong practices, but paying 84k crores to VI for free is absolutely not in favour of country. Nothing is free in this world. more
Sir as a citizen voter in india plus senior citizen now - incomes to run family required first period neither loans or additional expenses of any kind simple as that and a very valid point too . more
You have raised a valid point. If 84000 crores has to be paid by each citizen of India it stands out to be around Rs. 579 per person. Do we remember around 30 years ago when BSNL alone was in telecom, it was charging Rs. 1.20 per second i.e. Rs. 72 per minute in peak hours. Even call rate in nonpeak hours (mid night calls) were around Rs. 20 per minute. People used to say that flight travel charges were cheaper than telephone call charges which continuously decreased after entry of mobile operators in the market. However before the entry of reliance Jio we all know what were call and data charges. Jio offered free call and data for up to one year and then at Rs 399/84 days for around 3 months and disrupted the fair competition where majority of players were ousted any how VI and Airtel could survive. Now when Jio and Airtel has entered in duopoly (one supporting others moves). BSNL white elephant of India with its rusted system and rusted mind-set employees, it has worst network coverage worst tower maintenance, BSNL employees never bother if its towers are emitting signals or not, it is extremely unfit to face any competition, yet the Govt has to bail out BSNL to keep a check on monopoly / duopoly in the interest of people of India. I think Govt. may have same interest in the revival of VI. more
A good question by Mr. Suri to the Govt. Also good suggestion that the owners and those responsible for bringing Vodafone to this financial position mut be taxed first before taxing Tax Payers. more
