Water Standards needed
We have been discussing saving water in the other circles.
I want to call upon BIS to come forward and set mandatory standards for ground water extraction for individual homes, residential societies, commercial buildings.
If there are no standards people do what they want to.
Once the standard is there atleast 20-30% saving will happen. Once enforcement is there through municipality or water commission it will rise to 50%.
Making beginning is key. Please escalate localcircles more

The standards and rules for extraction of ground water are laid down by the water resources department and also by the department of mining and geology in the respective states. more

yes indiscriminately usng ground water has resulted in lowering the same and that is the reason we do not see trees growing in cities even though our municipalities plant trees at high exhorbitant cost but none of them survive since ground water level is low and the people who plant them do not bother to take care of them at least during the initial period more

Ground water extraction in most parts of India is already banned, since the water table has gone down much much below the allowable level. The position of Ground Water Table (GWT) across our country is available with Central Ground Water Board, and some States also have their own records. Through GIS Mapping also it is easy to locate. BIS have standards of water fit for human consumption (drinking , washing, bathing, cooking, toilet use etc.) and per capita per day limit, which is 135 lpcd (litres per capita per day). Concern is rampant use of RO Purifier for household, which rejects more than 50% of municipal treated water. The RO system is costlier than other systems available in the market, and in most of the cases RO system does not attract any merit. Even literate people of upper strata of the Society is not aware about the scientific fact,and go by the Salesman or Adman's expertise only. This is of course my own opinion, having a little knowledge in the field of Water Supply & Sanitary Engineering including Waste water treatment. Summary is Standards related to Water & Waste Water & Recycling are in existence, but awareness and consciousness are two essential elements, which are need of the hour. more

Now that PM has made water a prime concern it would be pertinent that all forms of water need to have a standard prescribed and BIS should highlight the same and should be displayed in all muncipalities and also it should be audited more
