Water Logging and Rains - Issues from the season

Many cities again this season continue to experience water logging. It seems, majority of the urban local bodies once again this season haven’t taken the steps you suggested. We invite you to share your experiences with rains and water logging this season and basis that we will conduct polls to figure out the exact situation to drive actions by ULBs.

We look forward to your inputs! more

Long term plan to prevent water logging. 1. The reasons prevention of flow need to be identified. Most of the times it is identified in each season and conveniently shelved after monsoon. No persuasion. 2. Land may be acquired ,If required , to ensure proper drain. 3.Lower level municipal staff are not properly motivated/trained to be monsoon prepared. As long as political interventions for protecting unauthorized constructions are there, we can not expect any thing better. 4. as suggested by some one more and more rain water harvesting pits will be great. As many as possible and where ever is possible. Particularly in water logging ares. 5. Making groups of local people, other than politicians, will certainly find solutions. Keep the politicians away if practical solutions are required. more
A Network of Water Circulation in States and their linkage with other States.... Is highly recommended. more
Most cities are either constructed or paved so that rain water cannot enter soil. So it starts flowing on the roads. To prevent this, rainwater harvesting pits or even storage tanks under buildings to take this rain water is the solution. Climate changes are inducing heavy concentrated rains in isolated areas. This also causes flooding. The only way out for this problem is to change our lifestyle to the earlier one. It may sound like going backward but what is the point in going forward which lands us into a mess? more
In Mumbai drainage cleaning is not done properly and then Kachara coming out is not disposed off totally and in timely manner. It will remain their for months together and during this period half of kachara will go back in drains.Another is quality of roads repair is very very poor.Third is many a manholes are missing with the result people will die in rain flooded roads.Even condition of Footpaths is very bad, half of them are occupied by Hawkers and other half is totally broken.Senior Citizens and kids are prone to accidents. All these points need serious introspection and corrective measure. more
Water logging continues in all cities .Causes are glaring ,It has not found solutions only stopgap attempts by respective state municipalities. Fundamental town planners, city planners have no effective experience as they areworking just mechanically drawing salaries for years .They should be sent on courses in institutions to learn modern city planning and solution finding. They are out dated! Second corrupt councillor’s/ corporators are only interested in their cut.Theydo not study and allot the competent contractor to execute what is desirable in the contract. Thirdly there is no accountability in engineers who check the final work and quality but. They too are for their cuts. Fourthly The road laying is onlyrecarpetting however it is done.Study survey of the old road ,gradient ,location of effective drains, sewers, storm drains and other factors are not done ,every year new carpeting which increases the height of roads and the neighbourhood get water logged even houses. Fifthly no civil case against civic authorities so far in India for such lapses! Year after year we see this and feel frustrated as why we should pay taxes . Central urban development authorities to soome extent has inched forward in swatch Bharat Abhiyan But the fundamental lapses like flooding regularly year after year reflects the situation in our country . Modi2.0 govt must address this if they are to prove themselves as the sincere voters are hoping in desperation . more
