Use of PERC in drycleaning

PERC or percholoroethylene is widely being used in dry cleaning in India. It is highly cancerous, affects kidney, liver and central nervous system. Study by ngo toxiclink found 75% drycleaning samples in Delhi and Kolkata had it. Some clothes had residue as high as 101 mg/kg.

We urgently need BIS to create a standard where use of PERC is disallowed and that standard needs to be mandatory.

This is why I am writing in this circle and hope its taken up right away. If there is something on it, please do share. more

Has BIS taken action?? more
No doubt at no fault of the one suffers from cancer, do the literated expext more innocents to be trapped?. One who treates with trichloro ethylene or per chloro ethylene, by inhealing the toxic gas, they are directly affected by the killing decease. The workers are illiterate and they are the soft target. It is high time to seriously take the boiling issue with environment ministry as well with health ministry. Though required to ban tobacco, based product consumption, why the same department draws a Nelson's eye? more
While I laud Mr. Korada and Jayakumar's comments, sometimes we need to dryclean sarees which cannot be washed at home as they will be completely spoilt and they are expensive. Sarita's plea should be sent to the higher authorities immediately. Please visit the cancer hospitals in any part of India to see the terrible suffering of those who attained the disease without no fault of their own. more
Yes, BIS may create a standard for use of PERC more
Personally, I would want us all to focus and work practically towards keeping our environments CLEAN AND TIDY ............ all else will fall in place.....!! more
