UPI for tolls - why?

https://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2025/Oct/04/new-toll-rules-from-nov-15-cash-users-without-fastag-to-pay-twice-the-fee

Fast tag, whereever the cameras worked, was a fast way to move through highway tolls. Vehicles without fast tag or no balance would also enter the lanes, pay the penalty with cash or upi, and would hold up the rest of the fast tag users behind them. Now, the govt comes out with a rule that there would be a lesser penalty for upi payments at tolls. Instead of this , should it not employ technology so only vehicles with valid fasttag and sufficient balance should enter the fast tag lanes? Either have a separate lane for faulty or no fast tag vehicles or before the lanes have provision to buy or recharge fast tags. more

If you travel on national highways and don’t have FASTag, you should consider paying via UPI rather than cash to avoid paying double rate. Even with UPI payment, you’re still paying 1.25× the standard toll. So best case is to have valid FASTag to pay full standard fee. Ensure your FASTag is functional and has sufficient balance—technical or balance issues may still force you to pay the higher rate. more
It's a right move at this juncture! Now, the payment is moving in round the way. Instead, UPI will ease the complex nature of Fastag process. I have adopted the fastag usage by refilling through, credit card, the value. When the currency is exhausted, we need to pay and find the filler through hard cash. In the above suggested method, the currency can be updated with credit card. Thank you On Mon, 6 Oct 2025, 4:18 pm Padmanabhan G, wrote: > more

The Government is creating corruption itself. Why charge TOLL TAX? Toll tax a charge for use of the road. When a new vehicle is sold and get registration number, a whole life time(vehicle life) ROAD TAX is charged. Where that amount goes? if not spent on maintenance of roads and new roads. That amount goes for the luxury of the politician and general public suffers for that. Kharbanda son of a freedom fighter. Our fore fathers sacrificed every thing for the freedom of the country and that freedom is nicely MISUSED for personal interest ignoring their sacrifice. more
