Unwanted SMS reporting must be made easy

DOT has acted on the issue escalated by LocalCircles earlier this year about spam or unsolicited messages and imposed a penalty between INR 1000-10000 for such senders based on the extent of violations. However, the procedure for reporting is not straight forward and thanks to all who shared your opinion on the same. Below is the link to the report which we will escalate to the Government.

Spam SMS complaint process needs to be simplified

We strongly believe that if the same is not simplified, there will be a mechanism in place which will not work in consumer interest and the unsolicited messages will not get reported and senders penalised.

Do share your experience and inputs on the subject! more

My landline telephone also has been invaded by m/s Bajaj Finance. Obviously, such atrocities are increasing because of assured immunity. more
Spam messages receiving every day are making our lives hell. An early solution to the issue and a simplified way of reporting such messages to the appropriate authority for initiation of punitive action against the senders must be introduced. more
Of course there is an urgent need to put a practical reporting procedure against such nuisance callers/ messages. The person reporting should be informed about the action taken. more
I have registered for DND for all types of Messages/ calls. However, still continue to get them regularly. Complaints have not helped. I do not think a single rupee of fine has ever been levied on the defaulters. I do not think the DOT or the Govt has any inclination to curb this nuisance. more
Even though I have signed into DND, I too get a few unwanted SMSs some with report SPAM and without the reporting provision. I just delete those SMSs. more
