TRAIN SERVICE RESTORATION
Has our glorious Indian Railways have decided to run only special trains in future? Normal mail/express trains have been decisively dumped FOR EVER ? But free travel in saloon cars by the railway employees must be continuing !!! I can vouch that the AC coaches of any long distance train leaving HOWRAH will carry 10-20 railway employees travelling illegally and free to KHARAGPUR. TCs connive to identify the empty berths, more

I shall be glad to correct my observations if some empirical evidence is shared to clinch the issue one way or the other. In the absence of same, the personal perceptions do not amount to more than conjectures as per the well-settled and respected principles of deriving cogent and credible inferences from some set of data found large enough sample to generalize the findings obtained therefrom. more

No common citizen, however socially conscious he might be, can provide this data, which can be easily obtained by surprise checks. It is a known fact for ages (I am 71 year old & I have seen this happen for the last 40 years at least) that TTEs provide information to Season ticket holders & railway employees (who may or may not be holding pass) to travel in reserved compartments of ether the same class or higher class (mostly in case of employees) in all trains, especially in trains at office times between stations, in which they commute on daily basis. The only obstruction comes when checking squad boards the train but this information is generally available in advance to TTEs, who, in turn prohibit the season ticket holders but cover up the railway employs, who are very rarely detrained. more

Prior to pandemic, railways enabled short distance travelers to book reservation ,on any long route mail/express train even after preparation of reservation chart,thus,eliminating T C to accommodate any passenger including railway staff. This means, if a TC allots an empty seat to any passenger at a price, seeing vacant seat/a,due to provisions of booking confirmed seat at the last minute I.e. after preperation of reservation chart, reservation made after chart preparation may not reflect. This system made all T C's in a fix. If this system continues, no T C could allot an empty seat to an individual. more

It's a well entrenched malady. Many years back I was returning to Calcutta from jamalpur after official work. The AC2 tier coach was full and most of the crowd was railway staff. They were loudly discussing office politics. Inside it was sweaty and I was almost drenched, but AC wasn't on. When I asked the attendant he frankly admitted that these intruders will get down at Bhagalpur and then AC will be switched on. Obviously nothing has changed in railway staff behaviour but administration is milking the hapless passengers in the name of special fares. more
