Throwing garbage out from train
Firstly, the incident: The railway employee caught throwing trash off the train in that viral video has been "removed." But what does removed even mean? Fired? Transferred to some other dept? For passengers, littering in undesignated areas is a criminal offense, so why not for railway employees? Will this person face legal consequences like a fine or jail time, as per the law?
Secondly, the broader issue: You keep him or fire him, either way, it doesn’t solve the problem. Anyone who has traveled extensively by train knows that railway staff (both direct and outsourced) commonly dispose of waste by simply tossing it onto the tracks. How else do you explain the endless piles of trash lining the tracks for kilometers before every station? Or the cattle roaming near railway lines?
This needs serious action. A few simple measures like larger bins, CCTV at bin areas in the trains, monitoring, and fixing accountability could significantly improve waste management. Worth trying. more
