My husband & I volunteer with a few NGO’s which help to rehabilitate street-kids, and women and children who have suffered domestic & sexual abuse. For the past few months, we have been holding workshops to train women & children of these NGOs to make newspaper & recycled cloth bags and sell them. Since shopkeepers do need bags, we are trying to reduce the use of plastic bags, with this very simple activity, which will ultimately play a role towards a Swachh Bharat. Helping us tremendously is a very kind and philanthropic gentleman who has designed more than 26 shapes & sizes of such bags; and also our friends & well-wishers, who happily donate their raddi newspapers & old clothes. I myself sit and make as many bags as possible – both cloth & newspaper. more
