Standards for Water Tankers
Can BIS please share if there are any mandatory standards for Water Tankers. If not can a consultation be had and those developed. Many of us end up calling for tankers atleast once a month and a standard will help. more

Standard for Water Tanker must be available with the PHD. But if it is not followed, then it is really pathetic. more

There are standards for everything in our country. But the manufacturers/ suppliers do not adhere to these as they want to make a quick buck and the enforcement agencies look the other way after getting their share of the loot. more

In India, the consumers are unaware about BIS/FASSAI standards. Due to acute scarcity of water, the people rush to the water tanker without bothering about the testing of container/content. It is great if someone delivers water to the thirsty consumers. If the demand dries up, the consumers will start asking about the quality. There is dire need to reduce the demand by curtailing population and simultaneously take steps to augment clean water supply in every State. The funds should be generated for this purpose by reducing freebies by 50% as the tax payers are not in a position to bearer further burden of taxes. more

Very true about the the freebees . Yes just 50 % fro the freebees amount can do wonders in the society .

Standards for Tankers are available with RTO. For water carried by them, there are no standards. more

Very good that this was brought to the notice of circle members . We are all aware that there are standards laid down systematically . There is no point being on paper . As one of the thousands affected with water crisis in Chennai , who get water being carried by Tankers and delivered at door steps at a cost . * The first standards that should come to the fore is the standardisation of Tanker capacity . It starts from 3,000 liters to 20,000 . Only big housing complexes will have huge Sumps to download a full lorry capacity of 20,000 liters . There are many individual houses with 3 or 4 will not have such sumps with huge capacity . So this situation is being exploited by the Tanker suppliers . Full lorry or no lorry . So many of the residents land up paying higher amount than what is supplied . This is another form of profiteering exploiting the crisis situation. * Next is the cleanliness of the interior of the Tankets . The tanker water does have sediments as the water level in the lakes come down .Is there a check if they clean periodically . * And the quality of water supplied also matters . more
