Standards for public dustbins
I am so far not impressed with activities of BIS. Who is their MD or DG? Why do they refrain from public engagement?
I would like to submit a suggestion to create mandatory standards for public dustbins in india.
Right now all kinds of dustbins are there from regular ones to penguins and from metal cover ones where u literally have to insert you hand inside to rabbits. This must make training of both user and municipal employees harder. I think municipal commissioner mayor decide vendors colours shape and in the process usability goes for a toss.
Can or will BIS take this up? more

Does this fall within the jurisdiction of the BIS. I agree, the size and quality of the dustbins being installed in public places are cheaper in quality and any idiot can also say bluntly that there had been foul play in deciding and purchasing the dustbins spending thousands of crores of rupees belonging to the common man. The concerned people are shameless and do not learn anything from their frequent foreign tours spending public money said to be for the purpose of improving quality of services being offered to the our payers. Though no one is sure about the after sought improvement in different areas but one thing is certain that such tours invariably bring lot of improvement in the life of the concerned officers/leaders and their families. more

Don't laugh, but even crows and pigeons have learnt how to topple the 10-litre dustbins, let the garbage on the ground and run away with foods of their choice and leave the garbage on the ground...... more

BIS needs to work together with manufacturer, installer and user. Producing mini-products for a jumbo-collection, as we see all over around us.....in parks, on roads, in markets........ is useless exercise.... more

BIS is involved in multifarious activities like Standards Formulation, Certification, Product/Schemes. Laboratory Services, International Activities, Consumer - related Activities, Promotional Activities, Training Services, Information services, Sale of Standards & Publications. I am afraid, whether they create mandatory standards for public dustbins in india. more
