Smart City portal compromises information

The govts inability to handle people’s information and keep it confidential came to light here in Bhopal. No body seems to care. There is a need for serious fines to Govt depts if they compromise peoples info. Ideally the penalty should flow down to officers.

Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has compromised personal information and private data of thousands of residents on its smart city web portal through an error in coding.

Anyone can access private information and details of property owners online simply through telephone number, address or property ID. A search throws up not only personal information of the resident but comes tagged with photograph of the house.
The glaring lapse has gone undetected for weeks. Poor coding and security have made the task of copying data even easier. Search string lists the entire list of numbers at one go. For instance, on typing '9', the poorly coded site throws up results for all citizens whose mobile number begins with '9'. Corporation officials are oblivious of the data breach. more

This trend is dangerous.Any wrong element can sabotage you. more
BMC is not possible to be sued on such negligence but this becomes the moral duty of the concerned officers to save the personal data to be getting advantaged., I think. Bhopal is emerging a smart city and a few standards are necessary to be Smart. Security of data may be of too priority. Had Aditi mentioned the correct site of Bhopal Smart City with reference! more
Possibly you can get your details giving your phone number on Google search. Our Central administration is all shamble, they give feed backs on their whims. more
Sue the government more
The government officials appoint poorly educated IT professional, instead of creating data base through highly professional companies. The result is as above. more
