Smart Cities Project

2 years are approaching by since election of the Modi Government. There was lot of buzz early on about Smart City Project. Given the state of the country where basics are lacking like cleanliness, waste mgmt, sewage infrastructure, water, is this project realistic.

Please share you experience from different cities? What should not happen is 3 more years go by, money is spent and very little to show.

Swachh Bharat Mission is for implementation in pen and paper. The cities are yet to have any changes. more
I have been spending a lot of time with the Municipal team in Varanasi to help in our PM's objectives at my own initiative and cost. However, the problem of Indian bureaucracy being very lethargic to change is highly evident. Everything is set up to fail even the most simplest and effective of ideas that will help our nation and help the Government in cleaning Ganga. Government officials should be divested of the power to decide on actions. Peoples councils who have rights to take immediate action without hundreds of files being moved should be implemented to ensure that things are actually done and not only talked and marketed for the next election. more
We dont have to bother as to 2 years have been completed as lot of good steps has been taken by this government. It will take some time to move forward from a position of inertia. Now the movement will be faster, I think. Fulfilling the basic needs of country men are the most important job of any good government. But taking into consideration India's condition where all the state are in different stages of development. For eg in Kerala almost all the houses will be having sanitation facilities, Drinking water is also not a big concern here. Waste management is big concern. Hence Government has to consider the position of each state and take forward the development activities. more
I do not hesitate in supporting all initiatives of NDA/Modi government. But in smart city project I slightly differ. What is called a smart city? A city lacking in many fields, say like drainage system in many areas Chennai for example, but with attractive other projects in other areas? With need to empty the septic tanks two or 3 times a month paying Rs.1500 for every trip? Who needs it? Definitely not me. And who decides about what is to be done under this name? The so called elcted representatives tarting from ward members or Councillors or MLAs or Mps? Do they really bother other than looking for their own convenience? Do they understand// I do have a laughable solution at least for Tamil nadu, where ministers are changed every now and then. Just ask them to change their official residence to every part of the city. They may at least suffer a little more, if they cant understand the seriousness of issues. If otherwise, money will be pured in, and issues will start disappearing at an unimaginable speed! Because they are servants and they can not live an uncomfortable life! Thank you for reading. more
Yes it is true that 2 years have lapsed & not much could be achieved to create smart cities. Do we feel that it is such a small job. Things which were spoiled for more than a century due to our slavery cannot be corrected in years. First of all we must appreciate that at least we are made aware that we must improve. not to get a tag but for our own survival. If we do not , we will perish & some one else will again start ruling us, may be not physically but technically , medically or financially & we may againg plunge into deep slavery. Smart city is nothing but a city which is using natural resources to optimal & insure no abuse to nature thus live good quality of life in tend om with nature. Therefore it our responsibility that we become more responsible & be a part to the change & not the onlooker. We are fortunate that we got a leadership which is positive. Now it is our term to respond not to accept more. We jointly can reverse the forces and acts which is preventing all of us from that quality of life to which all of us deserve. Faster we move earlier the changes will appear. lets start contributing whatever small it may be & not look to other to help us. We are mighty & I am proud of my nation & my brothers & sisters. more
