SIM binding of WhatsApp

Has been mandated by DOT. Now one
1. Can't use whatsapp/telegram on tablets without SIM
2. Can't use whatsapp/telegram on companion device
3. Will get logged out of desktop apps after every six hours. Irritating.
4. Can't use whatsapp/telegram on international SIM when traveling abroad
5. Businesses can't use WhatsApp for business which has automation and API based access
6. Someone moving out of India wanting to keep whatsapp contacts and messages can't change number because account is locked to SIM

Why was there no consultation with us consumers on this ? more

Yes — the “SIM binding” rule is real and affects WhatsApp, Telegram and other similar apps in India. Some of the consequences you listed (tablets without SIM, difficulty using on PC) will likely follow — but the apps are not banned, just made far less flexible. Whether this improves cybersecurity or simply makes things inconvenient remains to be seen. more
Stupid question, needs no reply. more
In a way it is good .use of whatsapp will get limited more
Who care about the consumer? If you want the service, take another SIM national or international. This improves the trade, business, taxes and GDP. This is one way to showing surge in GDP growth. more
Is the question justified ? national security need to be consulted with al ? did govt ask to start free services after consultaion ? more
