Service Charge on e-ticket

The Railway must do away with service charge on e-ticket.

Service charge should be levied only when passengers book ticket over the counter as one person (railway employee) is providing service to another (passenger).

In case of e-ticket, railway employee (booking staff) is not involved.

Private companies usually provide discount on on-line payment, the railway must also provide discount on e-ticket to encourage passengers to book/purchase tickets on line rather than buying ticket at counters.

The Railways can save millions of rupees , if majority of passengers opt for e-ticketing for the following simple reasons:

1. Lesser counters will mean lesser manpower to man the ticketing counter.
2. Cost of setting up new ticketing cum reservation counter at cities/towns can be reduced which will reduce the operating costs.
3. No. of existing ticketing cum reservation counter at cities/towns can be reduced which will reduce the operating costs further.
4. By providing discount, passengers will be encouraged to opt for e-ticketing.

In fact e tickets should be encouraged so we should be given a discount for booking on the net more
On-line ticketing is one among many convenient facilities offered by the Railways. However there is some vital flaw in the IRCTC ticketing system. Even before a ticket is confirmed the system debits the ticket fare from the debit card or the credit card account of the customer. This is tantamount to fraud perpetrated by the IRCTC and liable for legal action by the victim. Unless one has enough balance in his debit card or credit card account one must not try to book a ticket as each attempt, to find out a proper berth or seat or the train, results in debiting the fare from his account even though the ticket is not booked. Some of us that are victimized by this faulty procedure are contemplating seeking legal help. more
My point is simple, by giving discount, passengers will be encouraged to buy e-tickets. The economic impact will be felt in years to come. Operational costs can be trimmed in future. Size of IRCTC is not the issue !! more
Sir, Without any discounts and provisions still the IRCTC is the world largest e-commerce company on web, the railway have retained there monopoly even the web world by giving ticketing rights to only IRCTC. more
You have made a valid and logically correct point. Hope Railway Administration takes note of this more
