Service Charge - Way Forward Inputs Sought
Per the LocalCircles poll on Restaurant Service Charge, approximately 68% citizens are suggesting that a YES/NO selection option for Service Charge must be given on the bill to consumers.
If such an advisory were to be issued by the Dept of Consumer Affairs, how do you suggest it be implemented at the State and Local Levels.
What is the role that the State Consumer Dept and District Magistrates should play such that every restaurant follows this practice.

Total removal of service charge is the answer.No choice to consumer .Ban the service charge .Give service or perish should be the answer to the industry. more

Service charge is a misused term. Though most think it is for the serving staff to the contrary in most of the cases it is pocketed by the owners. Hence need to remove it from Bill. more

No extra service charge need to be added. The cost of the items served is around 40-50%of the price mentioned in the Menu Card. Thus they are 50-60 % Gross Profit. In view of this there is no case for charging 5-20 % Service Charge. It should be left to the customer to pay a TIP or not. more
