Seniors still not getting lower berths

Lower Berth Quota (LBQ), meant for senior citizens, only works inside the GENERAL bucket.

Not in PQ.
Not in RL.
Not in RS.

So if your/ your parents’ ticket is under PQWL / RLWL / RSWL, LBQ CANNOT apply to them.

They get the leftover berths after the General quota is processed.
This is literally how the system is built today. Needs change. more

Side lower berth is also lower berth. But it's never alloted to Sr Ctzs. All Top leaders are Sr Ctzs, But They need not as Flights are for them. But for Normal public SrCtzn, They always ignore? more
Senior citizens still fail to get lower berths because the Lower Berth Quota is tiny and works ONLY within GENERAL quota, not in PQ, RL, HO, SS, or Tatkal. For passengers boarding at intermediate stations, LBQ is almost never applied. This is why even eligible seniors routinely end up with upper or middle berths. The problem is solvable through small policy and algorithmic changes. more
Railway need to act immediately. Senior citizens deserve to be treated with respect and comfort by Indian Railway. more
yes why is it that railways cannot see all these issues and are only doing lip service to sr citizens.Do we have to remind the railways how the software works cannot they give clear instructions to the people who are at the back end doing software and they only show what the good things they are doing showing some kind of sympathy but this does not help..From day one they have to have a fool proof system and not wait for customers to report problem for them to address.Wake up railway ministry more
Thank you, Sneha, for clarifying this. It’s important for everyone to understand that the Lower Berth Quota (LBQ) only applies within the General quota. Senior citizens relying on PQWL, RLWL, or RSWL tickets may not get the benefit, which can be frustrating. It would be great if Indian Railways could consider extending LBQ benefits to these other categories as well, to ensure that seniors are prioritized regardless of the ticket type. This would make travel safer and more comfortable for our elderly passengers. Syed On Thu, Nov 27, 2025 at 6:09 AM Sneha Goyal wrote: > more
