Risks of Smart City Mission

I dont mean to be a nay sayer but I feel the Govt without getting Swachh Bharat and AMRUT right runs a big risk with Smart City Mission. I say that because it is the same Municipal Comm (MC) and Mayor responsible for the delivery who are grossly unequipped to get things done for various reasons. I invite everyone's comments on how Govt should minimize this risk. Having the MC have 3 buckets of funds and little understanding/accountability can cause serious issues including a hit on crediblity of the Govt.

SBM team may please communicate this to Hon'ble Urban Minister annd take actions. more

Smart CITY / AMRUT Sir, Smart is a scheme within AMRUT. Initially only 20 cities have been selected based on presentations made by State Govt / ULB of the city. We have to start some where. There would pit falls in the process and lot of learning. Personally I have no doubt in the capability of Indian persons to execute such projects. It is the corruption and political interference in day to day work which is the biggest issue or a retardant to implementation. Hope fully the project head will be a proud Indian more concerned about his reputation as a successful CEO like Delhi Metro Man, then earning illegal wealth. more
First the big issue is the way people are selected in MCs: 1. Selection procedure is not at all good and needs to overhauled as per today's need and future requirements. 2. We need Knowledgeable, Dynamic, Hardworking, Visionary, Efficient people in MCs. Such people can be found in MNCs but not MCs simple reason is the way both the entities run themselves. 3. Current MCs' structure and way of working is very inefficient, laid back and unaccountable. That has to be completely changed. 4. We must address our concern to Govt. so that our vision of such massive development can be successfully realised. more
The attitude of Municipality authorities should change towards benevolent. more
