Rich Taxpayers calling quits on India

One big reason taxpayers are leaving India: open drains, potholes, flooded roads & no accountability.

On July  9th in Gurugram, auto‑driver Shailendra drowned in an open manhole behind his rickshaw, leaving behind his pregnant wife
.
What’s the point of a ₹4‑trillion economy if human lives aren’t worth protecting?

We must have

Criminal liability for civic officials & contractors when negligence kills.

Independent audits of urban infrastructure every 6 months.

Real-time complaint redressal with strict deadlines.

Transparent fund usage dashboards accessible to taxpayers.

Fast-track courts for public interest infrastructure cases.

Accountability isn’t optional. It’s time we demanded basic safety and dignity for every Indian. Lives matter more than GDP numbers more

All over the policy change is needed. Money is not tied down to a place it is portable and movable. Remove socialist regulations, remove red tape, make it easy for start up businesses, stop punishing the job creators. We still have tax the rich thinking that is so destructive and kills businesses. It is hard to attract businesses where the infrastructure is not in place, roads, water, electricity and affordable housing for the workers. Rent control madness, power supply problems are a major issue for any business. more
Completely agree. Unless we demand for these, they will never happen. The average citizen is least interested in his own welfare unless the problem reaches their doorstep. Then everyone ends up fighting in silos. This is exactly the attitude that needs to change if overall accountability has to come. One more point that needs to be added is : Make the minister accountable. Unless top down accountability happens, nothing will change. The top leadership is more accountable than the lowest level clerk as they are the ones formulating policies and also their duty is supervisory. If they do their jobs well, lower level will automatically be alert and efficient more
I fully agree with all the points outlined by Mr. Amit Mishra. Accountability is not optional. Authorities will have to own it and face the consequences. more
Really unfortunate more
Manuel Aaron: All these bad things have been going on since British times. Those in power do nothing for the common good, unless it gets them some personal benefit and ensure that they get richer and richer. During the Emergency, personal liberties, like speaking or writing against the Government, were curtailed. But life in general ran smoothly. Everything ran like clockwork. When you hailed an autorickshaw, the auto driver asked you where you want to go and took you there. Now, the auto driver asks you how much you will pay above the meter! Everybody is corrupt, from the top to the bottom, in every aspect of life. And they have always been so, before and after the Emergency. We need a single person, benign dictatorship! more
