Retiring Rooms - Inputs Needed

For all of you who have stayed or visited a Railway Retiring room in the last couple of years, we would like to seek your inputs on your experience and key areas that need improvements.

Please provide specific details if possible so we can understand the issues as best as possible and then work towards developing a time phased plan for Retiring Room upgrades.

Whenever we approach for a Retiring Room the In-Charge says no vacancy. this happened to me at Mysore and Bangalore. Rooms capacity may be increased. Many of Retiring Rooms are being occupied by Station Master friends and Railway staff on duty misuses a lot. when I entered Retiring Room at Samarlakota the bed sheets are very dirty and find somebody was already used. Responsibility of Retiring Rooms to be fixed to some staff. more

Crowd control will help in maintenance! Restrict entry of passengers, allow only to the passengers if his scheduled train runs late more than an hour. Provide free toilet & free basic amenities. Provide seats of such types which can not be used for sleeping. Increase single seating seats at the platforms. Provide few more toilets between each platforms other than having at the both ends looking at the increased length of trains & platforms so that the unnecessary entry to retiring rooms can be avoided. Provide proper information about the composition of compartments & its position at platform at all the junctions & about correct estimated timing of late running trains which keeps increasing in the step of every hour. And at last-May I have the honor to request Railway Minister Sir, "Kindly visit ECR headquarters Junction HJP in order to self experience the difficulties of the passengers & conditions of retiring room for self assessing the areas of improvement more than I write it". more

Most of the retiring rooms are pathetic & leave a lot to be desired. Waiting Passengers will prefer improved waiting areas. Areas for improvement -- 1) Pleasing & secure environment, 2) well maintained clean & hygienic washrooms, 3) comfortable seating arrangement, 4) availability of first aid box, 5) water cooler 6) Television set 5) feedback forms, 6) presentable attendants 7) public address system with clear, audible announcements more
