Requiring personal data for retail purchase

There are many many retailers who these days post you have decided what you are purchasing, they will demand your phone number as a condition to proceed with transaction.

If you dont give them your mobile number (which of course they will compromise and send you sms and whatsapp, they wont give you the bill.

This includes fancy multinational retailers and Indian big retailers.

Localcircles manager please take this up. Such malpractices to extract consumer data must stop immediately. more

This has become a sort of harassment for general public, because they will keep on sending SMSes and Whats Apps more
Do not go to such parties at all. They will themselves change their attitude. more
Manuel Aaron: Mr Padmanabhan has given a good suggestion. Give your mobile No with some digits changed. Those chaps will not know and will break their heads, hahahaa! more
Commerce minister should be taking action to stop such malpractices. more
If I don't give them my mobile number, they are OK with it and still give me a bill. Sometimes, I change Some digits of my mobile number and give it to them. So, be smart.🙂 more
True. I too do it. I combine two mobile numbers and give. Unfortunately, by chance it may belong to somebody else in the real world and they will be bombarded with spam messages for no fault of theirs.
In many shops I politely refuse and they give the bill. more
