Reform Land and Title registry

One problem which we need to solve in India is land & title registry - it is still an obscure mess of paperwork (with little digitization)

Almost every business owner I interact with - has a lingering fear about losing the documents proving ownership of their facility, home etc.

The authority is with municipal corporation or land records department and the stamp and charges are huge money earner for all involved in the process. Who would want to give it away? No state govt has the intent to make it transparent.

Many factories and plants dont fall in urban areas but semi urban and rural areas and local administrators can cause issues if not taken care of. Many do. Let us raise this issues. Millions of people and businesses will thank us.

Also lets think about a centralised central government system led solution implemented by state or district administrators more

All Illegal/Benami Properties Holdings must Stop. Then only we can expect some discipline in this matter. Mostly the Politicians and big Businessman are involved in this. more
Unless otherwise government gives an impetus with sincere and honest motive in getting the land records into digital platform without any dilution which happened RERA & IBC acts, we can't see clean slate in this field. Though effective Oct 2, 2020, PM started this but nothing significant has happened. Hope the process is clearly documented and framed without any further delay and well executed. Corruption exists at the height in land dealings. Clearances at various levels add fuel to the fire. No relevance to the stamp duty and registration rate/value and the prevailing market value. All politicians are involved in one way or other to stall the success of this process. more
There are a few challenges in this regard: i) The procedure to map the entire country with accuracy is needed first ii) System to identify co-owners/co-inhabitants on various plots of land iii) Separating ownership from leasehold property iv) Quality assessment as regards terrain, type of soil, earthquake parameters, flooding parameters, weather, height above MSL, Use of land, revenue record linkage etc. v) Linking legal documents to parcels/plots/property Believe me, this exercise will take up to two decades to realise if we start work now!! Its a mega IT, geo-mapping and linkage project, but will be of great benefit to the government and the masses at large if done properly. more
This could be like DEMAT accounts for Company shares. more
I agree with the problem and feel that enough attention should be given on the subject to digitize the land records and related matters. more
