Progress on Unmanned Crossing System

We are pleased to share that Indian Railway has developed a vandal-proof warning system for unmanned level crossings which is working satisfactorily for the last three months on Coimbatore-Metupallayam section.
Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), railways' research wing, which has finalised the specifications of the system, has recommended to all zonal railways to initiate steps for installation of the warning system in their respective areas as a step towards prevention of accidents.
The system consists of two sensor modules and a control module in which train movements are detected and siren and blinker alerts are produced when the train is within one km of the level crossing. Sensor modules are located within one km of level crossing to detect train movement on track.
The system has been developed with a Mumbai-based vendor and RDSO will call for an expression of interest from other vendors for the production of more such systems.

Where there is a need fo unmanned system, there is also the need of more men at some locations. At plateforms, when train comes, people fight for climbing onto the train. So there should be 10-20 cops on every plateform so that they can help people to climb on to the train, force people to get to train in case of over crowded, and look for the people who misbehave or fight with other passengers who want to climb so that they can get onto the train before others do. more

In every unmanned Railway level crossings continuous speedbreakers and red painted sign boards for 100 yards on either side of the road besides all automatic signals to avoid accidents in all unmanned levelcrossings.. more

it should be installed at 20 to 30 different location / division as a trial basis and as per experience modification should be made in the product. more

Some 10 years back a Bangalore based company has developed the same Level crossing protection device and was even installed with the approval of Research and Design organization of Railways in Bangalore region. It is not correct to say this has been developed very recently or for the first time. The lapse of 10 years precious time and the life of many could have been saved had the system already developed been perfected and put into use. more
