Privatization is not the solution. Plz give ideas for improvement. more
Since railways is trying to move away from social service and wants to make it a profit making company it's high time to privatize it. However only the trains should be privatize and not the stations, signalling and infrastructure. more
Privatisation will always improve efficiency and performance substantially but the fear for the common man is always cost of service. more
Railways in India continue to be the common man's economical and comfortable mode of travel. Privatisation would not help in retaining this, as private players would tend to operate only on profitable routes. There's a general perception that privatisation would rein in improvement in services which is a mis-conceived one. If private players can bring in quality why can't the government? The Railways cannot be considered just like any other sector for the purpose of privatisation. This involves traveling public with more emphasis on service factor more than profit. There could be few segments that could be outsourced like Railway stations, maintenance yard and even coach building but not operations more
To Mr. Shyam Chandra Ojha, Through history of mankind we have always resisted changes. It's in our human blood. There was a time when Indian Airlines & Air India were the only two government agencies authorized to operate passenger flights in India. Now, looking back, do you think privatization of Airlines in India (i.e allowing private operators to enter airlines sector) was a good idea? I believe so, thanks to Indigo, Spicejet and the likes, air travel have become really affordable. In the same line, we can initiate privatization of Indian Railways by allowing a few premium trains to be operated by private firms on a royalty basis with government earning a fixed fee from the operating firm(s) on a weekly or monthly basis. A win-win situation for both and you, as an end user, might be in for a pleasant surprise. It's important to take a baby step to explore a new world. If it works, why not continue. If it doesn't, try out a new option. more
