Priorities of BIS

I was astonished to read that BIS celebrated its standards day yesterday and the focus area was video standards. I mean, really?

Can we please pay attention to instead far more important things like air, roads, healthcare.

People die on Indian roads daily and many of these are due to dangerous intersections, traffic lights missing or defunct, poor road maintenance.

Standards for tik tok can wait. Even if you make these standards, no one will care so why bother.

Please take up MANDATORY road construction and maintenance standards in India. more

Yes, there had been lot of social issues to look after by the government and its concerned agencies which are much more important and are involved with the death and life of our people. Therefore, the government and its agencies should be choosy in prioritizing issues and areas which should be focused first to serve the social purposes better. However, I disagree with Ms Nikita as far as the reasons for road accidents are concerned. While there are incidents of road accidents due bad condition of our roads but the drivers themselves are personally responsible for majority of the fatal road accidents causing untimely death of lakh of people every year. There is only a small fraction of the traffic crowed all over the country who are conversant with traffic rules and bother for those rules and for everything we expect the law enforcing agencies to be in the picture and handle the situation. I myself observe daily that thousands of people driving two as well as four wheeler display no or little respect towards the traffic signals and rules. And it is just not manageable by one or two cops while lakh of motor vehicle being plied in our every town and city. Hence, I am of the considered view that unless we, the common man, extend our helping hands to the administrations at least by respecting and following laws & rules, the situation won't improve but deteriorate further. more

BIS has to gear up with respect to present environment and do things in a fast and effective way together with implementation since they are lagging behind ages i should say more
