End-to-End Processing of Organic-Waste (Food & Garden) into Organic Compost.
The college administration of Miranda House, Delhi University, led by the Principal along with the environment club students in collaboration with GreenBandhu Environmental Solutions & Services have been successfully running the - "De-centralized Zero-Waste & Composting" facility setup within the college premises for over one year now.
The composting facility operator is able to manage all the organic-food-waste and fallen leaves totalling up to 250 kg per day (7.5 Tonnes / month) and converting that to 100% organic and chemical-free compost without any smell, flies, or unhygienic conditions.
The facility has produced close to 10,000 kg of organic compost till date!! (What a way to convert Urban Waste to Rural Wealth for farmers, so that they can use the organic compost / manure and grow organic and chemical-free food for all of us.)
This project has saved the college and the municipality of Delhi thousands of rupees on transportation of 75,000 kg of waste to dumping ground / landfill which has amounted to huge reduction in carbon-footprint, pollution and spread of diseases.
The process is going on without any glitch. The best part of the project is that, besides processing all that waste, the operator who is running the facility was a rag-picker earlier and now he is a trained technician with assured income and dignity!
If such projects are granted an opportunity by the Prime Minister and current govt. then it will not only clean up and green up India but also promote skill development and assured income of thousands of rag-pickers across India.
