Onboarding Urban Illiterates/Slums to Swachh Bharat

Dear all:

It has been observed that a large portion of urban literate population has adopted well to the Swachh Bharat Mission.

With this post we would like to seek your inputs on how the Urban Illiterate and Slums can be brought on board to participate in Swachh Bharat Mission.

What all can be done to create awareness with the masses that are uneducated, do not understand civic sense basics but are key to the success of Swachh Bharat Mission.

We look forward to your inputs!

If we work with illiterates & poor people, they are very co-operative in Swachh Bharat Mission compared to rich people. I have seen that rich people and their children throw polythene, ice-cream wrappers etc. from moving cars. Poor people themselves keep their houses clean. Majority of them are amenable to advices, though they may not understand purpose behind cleanliness. If they are guided properly, they will work to keep their surroundings clean too. more
If India is 80 % villages, then all our programs should be aimed to reach out to them. If this democracy wants to function with healthy growth them grass root education in our neglected villages must take the precedent to all other planning. Panchayat and Khap atrocities must be harshly curbed and state should not have much say in their corrupt ruling. Without a total participation and creative involvement in democratic process (Government of the people, for the people, by the people is a true democracy!) Honorable PM started the "Swachh Bharat" movement and now people should come out with the mission. All ideas by PM are very valuable to build a strong nation, but without people coming out of their cocoon, nothing can happen and finally all failures will be blamed on HIM by the frustrated defeated SP of UP, Congress (RAhul and his Gang) and many leaders who are just on the fence. It is now people of the country with a strong faith in BJP, who should carry the torch. more
BJP has huge volunteers. Small groups consisting 20 to 25 members should be formed. Each group should own one locality (slum or colony). Group should visit the allotted locality. Contact the residents there, ask them why they are making dirty their own locality. Explain them the advantages of cleanliness & disadvantages of dirtiness. They must clean the area along with the residents. This can be done either on weekly holidays or after office duty is over if full time volunteers are not there. This should be done till the residents learn keeping the area clean or feel ashamed for not keeping clean. Sanitary dept should be part of this & they must clean the area on regular basis. If these sanitary workers do not clean strict action should be initiated against them. Resident must understand that all are serious in cleaning the area. By this way BJP can make more inroads in the area more
