On the ground malpractices

In the attached, please see a complaint from one of the members - Mr Roshan Bhatnagar, outlining that in his area garbage pickers are having to pay municipal officials a set amount every month.

This is a classic example of a problem that if not addressed to the root cause will hamper the progress of Swachh Bharat.

All of you are requested to talk to your garbage picker/collector to understand if similar situation exists in your area. You may report the same in your city Swachh Bharat circle so through collective voice awareness can be created.

Based on your reports and inputs, we will also formulate a solution that can be implemented by the Urban Local Bodies to address this malpractice.

RWA representatives collect monthly salary on behalf of garbage-pickers in Vasant Vihar, Delhi. They might have, rightly, contracted these pickers. Even so, fair minimum wage issues should not be overlooked. more
I have not verified but I will place on verification. Thanks for the opportunity. more
"India is not a third world nation, only our minds need to be raised" - from The Modern Guru. The Government must investigate all contractors and municipalities, talk to the workers privately and see if they are exploiting the workers, taking a cut from them to give them cleaning workers job, and so on. It would be shameful if the most down-trodden hard-working workers are being preyed upon by officials and contractors, if so found take corrective measures and give all sanitary employees a decent life. I feel so bad to see women bending their back are sweeping roads with no mask on, and much dust going into their lungs, and damaging their backs. They are also our sisters and some children's mothers, aren't they? Can't we give them brushes with long handles and a masks like some private companies do? Does it cost a lot? Or, are we so cheap that we don't care? more
This issue has worth and may be analytically reviewed and taken strongly before the most appropriate authority to root out the prevailing malpractices in municipality/municipal corporation all over the country for success of Swachh Bharat mission of PM Modi. more
