On Dynamic Pricing in Indian Railways

Before undertaking any changes, the Railways should bear in mind the problems and affordability of common people as Railways are mostly meant for common people who are not rich enough to go by air. They can earn profits if they provide better services with reasonable fares. Then people travelling by other means of travel will also prefer to travel by trains. Another way to earn profits is to cut down unnecessary and wasteful expenditure, and curb illegal methods. They have already enhanced railway fares and cancellation charges, and they are introducing tatkal trains to get more profits. So following blindly the procedures of airways will not fetch any good name and recognition to railways. On the other hand people will prefer to go by bus or taxi, or by flight if the fare is less. As a public service organization the Railways should not try become a corporate institution with the sole aim of accumulating profits. A balanced approach keeping in mind the public welfare before thinking of earning profits will boost and better the prospects of railways. If not dynamic pricing will be interpreted as nothing but a means of exploiting the public. more

In this changing world every country has to compete in world so there has to be further improvements. However for weaker section separate trains or additional bogies need to be added more
Public is paying anyway through massive financial support via the general budget. The NITI Aayog calculated that the last year the rail travel cost less than half of road travel. Logically, competition from roadways should not prevent the Railways from charging enough a passenger to cover all cost yet it loses money hand over fist on the bulk of it's passenger services. have be for every rupee it gets from passenger. more
Yes, Mr.Somaseshu you are absolutely right. While increasing the rates and putting the burden on common man and other passengers, they are not ready to take care about the problems of passengers. Let them verify the routes where ticketless travelling is more and introduce sufficient security personnel to such places. Definitely they can make profit in that routes too. I have travelled in train No. 19259 from Shoranur to Ahmedabad on 26th-28th Nov. Even AC compartments washbasin pipes are broken. Many times water problems. Only in Madgaon toilets were cleaned once. Don't know when we can travel in a clean and security bound trains. more
