NRI participation in Swacch Bharat

NRIs have been a great community, supporting India in many of its efforts with funds, expertise, networks, etc.

Today, we would like to seek your inputs on how NRIs can effectively participate in Swachh Bharat. What are the kinds of projects where NRIs can assist and how.

Since there are a few members who are NRIs and many of you may have some one in the family who is an NRI, please share your inputs.

I am from Abohar, a small town in Punjab that has border with Rajsthan. I live in London and recently visited my home town. My whole family stays in Punjab. I was very disappointed to see the condition of roads/cleanliness of the city. Day by day its getting worse. The key points i am mentioning here
a) There are bulls moving around the city, many lives have been claimed but no action has been taken by authorities regarding this. The basic right of any citizen is to move safely around the city.
b) The whole city roads have become worse and worse. You can't drive/ride without jumping on any road.
c) Near to head post office office, there is a lot of rubbish/garbage accumulated that needs attention. Its stinking like anything. But none from the authority came forward to help with this.
d) After cleaning sewage, the garbage keeps lying on the main street for two days and none cleans it up.
e) The railway gate stays closed for hours leaving people waiting for hours in hot sun.

I hope this post helps to grab attention from the authorities.

Everyone cares about the big cities but small cities are where most of Indian population lives.

Our NRI relatives want return in Old age and their children don't like India even if they are sometime abused by *english* with radical words (i.e Paki). more
I'm residing in Kuwait here Government has imposed very strict regulations for all industries to install own industrial wastewater treatment plant if anyone is not following the instructions they are not renewing their licences
we have to implement the same in India but how everyone has to think over because India is so big in comparison to Kuwait more
Contribution of NRI's in this mission is very valuable. Indians residing in countries like UK, USA, Australia, Germany etc Knows exactly what is expected from an individual w.r.t. cleanliness and consequences of Violation of the same. Also the role of govt in this mission is also well understood by these people. We as Indians copy almost all unwanted practices from foreigners like their food Habits, clothing's etc  which may not be suitable to our climate but we never copy the cleanliness and Hygiene practices which is given the top most priority in those countries. Hence NRI's can play a very significant role in Swacchh  Bharat Mission in applying the Best practices to improve the same.

as per my view, still there is time to bring them in this. When it comes to Swachh Bharat Mission & Clean India, govt gave a good jumpstart, all citizens were interested at it but slowly it is turning out to be failure... the primary reason being the role of MUNICIPALITY here, Forget about all foofaraw & bullet points & suggestions for a second, just think from a citizen perspective, due to this SBM momentum a person will stop littering things around on roads etc and will dispose the junk at a nearest dustbin ( sponsored by some local companies for SBM) Then what? Where to dump the Bin Now?? There is no proactive measure taken by local municipal authorities for garbage collection and disposal till date, hence final result... only dustbins... PLEASE PRIVATIZE MUNICIPALITIES OR ATLEAST THE CITY MAINTAINANCE DIVISION... GOVT NEVER LOOKS AT MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS... THERE IS NO USE OF DONATIONS OF MONEY OR EQUIPMENTS COZ MONEY ALWAYS DISAPPEARS AND ITS A FACT THAT MUNICIPALITIES NEVER MAINTAIN THEIR EQUIPMENTS PROPERLY... STILL MUNICIPALITY VEHICLES RUN OR KEROSINE (unethical) BUT NOBODY CHECKS BECAUSE ITS GOVT PROPERTY.... more
