I traveled recently in the Doranto train for which tickets were easily available at short notice. The train was well-maintained and reasonably clean and the food served was fresh. But the occupancy of the train was very low possibly due to the lack of intermediate halts. I was also told that people avoid this train due to lack of halts at stations closer to their destination at both ends. There are so-called technical and unscheduled halts of a few minutes which could have been made regular halts to increase occupancy. Further a few non-AC sleeper coaches could be attached. Despite being a non-stop the overall speed was just around 65kmph I guess so a few regular halts should be considered. more
I don't understand why so many people are against the Duronto trains. All other trains have stops in between. Duronto was born with the concept of only a point-to-point service. What people dont realise is that if Duronto stops for passengers at intermediate stations then it is no more a Duronto train. It will be just another ordinary non-Duronto train. If you dont like the Duronto.... then fine ... travel by another train. But leave the Duronto alone for people who need it, use it, and like it. Of course a few intermediate stops are needed for technical reasons like filling water and loading food etc. but certainly not for any other reason. more
My main point of concern is one speed , then viability(eg) Coimbatore Duronto was there & discontinued. Hence if chennai-madurai Duronto has these two stops, the train will have sufficient revenue, the 3 minutes stoppage will not result in late timings. more
Duronto is a good concept but in some routes it has to stop at intermediate stations (eg) Chennai--madurai, the train can halt at kumbakonam-thanjavur, which will yield good revenue & occupancy.Likewise other centres to be analysed. more
