Milk Powder Standards

Has BIS defined standards for milk powder in India? 1 kg of milk powder costs over 400 rupees.

Is this because of monopoly of nestle or is it genuinely this expensive??

We need to discuss standardisation in light of lowering cost?

I feel when multinationals with products come to India and work with the standards body we run the risk of foreign standards being imposed on us.

BIS not only has a standard on milk powder, but it is also under mandatory certification. more
we should encourage our indian AMUL brand more
As educated adults I suggest we should do our homework before planting queries on this platform..... more
I would anytime prefer natural milk from cow/buffalo than these milk powders.
Not only nestle also amul also makes these milk powder and would not be knowing the cost since have had a chance to buy any milk powder at any time and do not also intend to.
May be as a emergency one can have small sackets at home to take care of any issue more
Yes, but one had to be utmost careful while consuming such milk, many times such milk if milked from a cow or Buffalo having TB or other diesease can affect persons who consume such milk. It is better to use pasteurised milk. more
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has formulated and revised standards and guidelines for various dairy products and processes. Milk Powder – IS 1165:2002 more
