GURGAON: The district administration is planning to carry out an aerial survey of old Gurgaon for proposed metro connectivity within a month.

Confirming the move, deputy commissioner P C Meena said, "A proposal has been prepared in this regard as it would help in exploring the possibilities (for the metro connectivity."

He refused to divulge further details of the project. The deputy commissioner also met members of the old Gurgaon residents forum, Metro Lao Sangharsh Samiti, which is pressing for the metro connectivity in the old city.

The resident forum has a committee comprising mostly RWA members and social workers active in the old city, who have come on a single platform to fight the metro connectivity issue.

"This is the big one chance for all the residents of the old city to fight for bringing metro to this part of the town and we are planning a series of campaign in this direction," said Amit Arora, Sector 4 RWA secretary. The committee members, Puja Singh, Meenu Singh, Col Ratan Singh and Dr Ashok Taneja, also met the HUDA administrator regarding the metro connectivity issue.

"The demand for the metro connectivity in old Gurgaon is genuine but it is for the state government and metro officials to take a call in the matter," said Praveen Kumar, HUDA administrator.

The committee members are now planning a series of meeting with officials of Delhi Metro, MCG mayor and also with the chief minister B S Hooda also. The forum has demanded that the area from Rajiv Chowk to railway station, and new Palam Vihar and other HUDA sectors should be added to the metro connectivity.

"At present, the residents are paying Rs 700 for taxi for reaching airport from old Gurgaon. The metro connectivity will immensely help in general commuting inside the old city," said Puja Singh, a social worker.

At present, the spadework for the metro link between from IFFCO chowk to sector 21 Dwarka has been worked out for which DPR has been submitted with probable routes and coordinates of the routes. more

Thanks Murali. We actually look for people like you who have inner discipline and enthusiasm to carry out public service. We can make every city and town clean of garbage and rubbish while it enhances the beauty of the metropolises, the public health and hygiene is also looked after. more
Dear Satheesan, Am available to work with u on this issue..have had considerable experience in air force bases fighting bird menace..have commanded a fighter base in Gujarat where this was a priority area , but educating locals was somewhat easier , I am sure , than in Delhi! Am retired now with plenty of time at my disposal..so do feel free to involve me in any voluntary effort in this regard.. Best, Murali more
Dear Readers and Members, I would like to answer Murali Menon's question! Delhi has everything (including superabundant food supply as inefficiently disposed or even undisposed garbage to the tune of 7000 metric tonnes daily) supporting population explosion of birds to make them pests, especially for scavenging birds that hit civil and military aircraft at airports in Hindon, Delhi International Airport and the one at Safdarjung. If you go to Ghazipur anytime between 7 am and 5 pm you can count at least a lakk of Pariah Kites (and of course other bird species) flying, feeding and perched on every possible perch (buildings, signages, water tanks, electric poles, power lines) you can think off. If an aviator happens to visit Ghazipur he will never think of flying an aircraft into Delhi airspace. Then how did they think of building an airport near Ghazipur. I am also worried about the health and hygiene aspects of having such large amount of improperly disposed garbage and large population of scavenging birds in the ecosystem. It will be a good breeding ground for infectious diseases, contaminating meat from abattoir close by. Readily available animal garbage will make the kites and other scavenging birds lazier because there is no need food-searching, thus affecting their health. Garbage disposal in Delhi and environs has to be streamlined to improve public health and hygiene. Let us make Delhi clean, green and more beautiful as the capital city! Dr S M Satheesan more
How about some anti - bird civic measures?! more
It will be a welcome move as residents of Gurgaon will save time, money and labour by this much-awaited initiative in public transportation. All initiatives and plans to reduce the hardships of common man are always appreciated. more
