Mayor in India versus USA

A mayor in any US city has a lot of power and accountability to get work done.

In India, mayors have limited capability and limited power.

Can we please have a discussion on what should be the roles and responsibilities of a mayor. What is peoples current experience with their mayor. Whay do they lack? Where do they fail?

Till we have strong city leadership, EVERY mission like Smart City or whatever will fail.

MOUD and State Chiefs need to rethink this model. more

In India the Mayors are political people and in some places they are not educated even. Why to compare with US. more
There is no point in comparing the U.S with the Indian system. The U.s is a system following the rule of law and there is no such system in India. more
The Mayor in India will be successful if he is elected directly along with his team. Also clear financial powers i.e. to Earn and Spend. more
In India each and every wants power to miss use public money in wrong way. Still in India mayor utilising power given them for bhrastachar. I have seen in America that mayor have complete power of finance and utilisation. They have to manage fund given by state, central. And locally. Never ask more money from state and central. All work done by various companies and expenditure collect from public. Which is not possible in India. On 19-May-2016 9:30 PM, "Aditya Goyal" wrote: more
