Stray dogs are a menace, endangering people, passersby and children. These dogs often chase vehicles and particularly for two wheelers it can cause danger. If there is Court injunction against stray dogs, the solution must lie in catching them and housing them somewhere or sterlising them. more
There is a HC judgement against harassing stray dogs! The Bombay High Court has consistently ruled against the harassment of stray dogs and their feeders, emphasizing that acts of cruelty towards animals are unacceptable and violate both constitutional and statutory provisions. The court has directed housing societies and other entities to cease coercive measures against individuals who feed stray dogs and has also instructed authorities to establish humane mechanisms for managing stray dog populations. Key rulings and actions: Cruelty is unacceptable: The Bombay High Court has explicitly stated that treating stray dogs with cruelty is not an acceptable approach for any member of society. Protection of feeders: The court has intervened in cases where housing societies have attempted to prevent residents from feeding stray dogs or have used intimidation tactics against them. No coercive measures: The court has directed societies to refrain from using bouncers or other coercive measures to stop dog feeding. Fundamental rights upheld: The court has emphasized that actions preventing individuals from feeding stray dogs infringe upon their fundamental rights, including the right to care for animals. Humane management of populations: The court has called for the establishment of mechanisms for the humane management of stray dog populations, including sterilization and vaccination programs. Apology for disobedience: In one instance, the Bombay High Court ordered a society to apologize for disobeying its order related to the feeding of stray dogs. Notice to railway authorities: The court also issued a notice to railway authorities after a woman advocate was allegedly harassed for feeding a handicapped dog on railway premises, according to Live Law. Legal Framework: Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960: This act prohibits cruelty to animals, including stray dogs. Indian Penal Code (IPC): Sections 428 and 429 of the IPC also address animal cruelty and abuse, according to Fur Ball Story. Animal Welfare Board of India: The board plays a role in promoting animal welfare and ensuring compliance with animal protection laws. In essence, the Bombay High Court has taken a strong stance against the harassment of stray dogs and their caregivers, emphasizing the need for compassion, humane management of populations, and respect for fundamental rights. more
When judges are attacked by such dogs, they take suo motu action against MC authorities. There are different laws for different people in India. more
Stray dogs menace if known to everyone, like many other problems this is also issue which the People can solve by helping the ABC project handlers. there are Vans moving around to catch stary dogs but as we all know sensing there dog catchers from a very long distance suddenly vanish in thin air. The solution can be dog lovers in their respective areas be friendly with the stray dogs and help the dog catchers and further sterilise them. It may not be as easy as it sounds but is certainly the way ahead a focused approach for few years stop. Dog lovers are our best bets as after sterilisation they have to be dropped back in their same locality where they were picked. its people participation just like cleanliness drive its not about cleaning its about NOT LITTERING. more
Every town, village is full of stray dogs. Who can catch all dogs to sterilize them. A bitch gives birth to 4-5 puppies twice in a year. A male dog can impregnate many bitches in year. As such
sterilization has failed to achieve the target. Similar is the case
with monkeys and other wild animals. Large scale culling is
the only solution to save human beings and crops of farmers.
This is possible only if Smt. Menaka Gandhi is made to pay the
compensation to victims throughout the country. more

Everyone is showing concern about stray dogs.. please study their behaviour and then comment. On ABC , it is successful wherever local canine volunteers have taken initiative and no dog bite reported. Those who says stop feeding..if stop feeding, they will be aggressive for food. Why to target dogs? What about bulls, or cows who have stopped giving milk are left on the road and becomes cause of major accident on highway or within the city. Killing is not the solution.. control their population by supporting ABC program of government, contribute little to those NGOs involved. Try to do some social work also. Remember as per honourable SC, stray dogs can not be relocated. Someone wrote immature statement that PM should announce on 15 th August? more
