Late fee of Rs 200 per day

Out of 84 lac assessees only 31 lac could file GSTR 3B.

Late fee of Rs 200 per day has started.
This means late fee Rs.106 Crore (53L*200= Rs.1,06,00,00,000) per day will be collected by the Govt.
It appears that the revenue is collected by way of late fees instead of legitimate taxes. Instead, the Govt should try to find out why 52 lac assessees could not file GSTR 3B. There is obvious reason of system error.
We have experienced in Maharashtra, the Sales Tax Department of Maharashtra used to examine the system analysis as to how many returns are filed & thereby used to find out the reason in poor compliance of returns. But in GST regime, it seems the Department of Maharashtra Sales Tax has lost it's autonomy, so much to say that the State Govt of Maharashtra has no powers to interfere with the GST administration.
The Maharashtra Govt and the State Department should take lead and convey the center the problems of system faced in Maharashtra including the problem of heavy rain in Mumbai on the last day of return.

It is really dangerous that the Govt is not ready to appreciate the problems of online system and have little lenient approach in spite of the fact that they are aware about the problems in online system. It is further more dangerous that State Govt has lost it's autonomy so far as GST is concerned. This may lead to situation that people may seriously think of changing Govt in the next election.

Whatever written herein above is as per my own opinion and in my personal capacity.

Recently Rajasthan High Court passed an order to this effect.. not to levy late fees during transition period on which you can rely upon.. more
There should be no late fee, penalty for 6 months. Atleast till 31st Dec, 2017. lot of new first time businesses have come in GST like entire textile trade. they need time to cope up.. more
suit boot ki sarkar will live and die collecting fines from ignorant and innocent honest taxpayers. more
Last date for filing GSTR 3B for Aug 2017 was 20/9/2017. I think businesses got almost 20 days to prepare the data and file the returns. Waiting for the last day to file returns is always risky and should be an exception rather than the rule. If someone wants to take the risk, they should also be prepared to pay penalty in case something goes wrong. more
Of those 20 days how many days the server was functional and forms ready? more
GST will be a disaster if returns are not filed in time. more
The GST has been a disaster for many businesses. And the supply chain is shrinking. Once the Demand goes up crook capitalists will enjoy the blood of the people by exploiting every bit of oppurtunity..And those politicians supporting GST will enjoy by getting money for their elections. more
The calculation is not so simple as it appears too be by pur secular intelelctuals and paid filth grade uneducated media. 1.The composition dealers will not file monthly returns. 2.Migrated dealers are waiting for cancellation of their GSTIN so they will not file returns. 3.There are dealers who do not have money to pay GST and hence they cannot file returns. 4. There is another class of GSTIN holders who even do not know they have been allotted GSTIN Number. 5. Of course there are habitual offenders some passive , some active waiting for some hawala opportunities. 6. Another class of over smart dealers who are sure the dates for August will be extended. s Let us acceot hard truth that not only babus and govts , business men are also equally esponsible for corruption and babushahi. Out of three, no one is honest. Whenever they get chance, they will strike mercilessly. Even almighty cannot save this country more
