Kashmir Travel survey

Yesterday someone said 90% bookings to Kashmir are being cancelled and today LC report has come saying 60% which seems much more real.

People who have bookings in Q3 and Q4 aren’t cancelling yet.

India should clean up the perpetrators and ensure tourism starts again soon otherwise Kashmiri people would end up struggling more

There is no simplistic solution to the Kashmir / terrorist problem. The government has to take a large number of firm and decisive decisions that will bear fruit only after several years if acted upon soon. First of all, India has to get back its territory that is currently on our maps but virtually controlled by Pakistan for decades. This has to be secured as soon as possible. Secondly, the terrorists and their sympathisers in India need to be dealt with very firmly/brutally, and all outfits completely neutralised. The education system needs to be more forward-looking looking and conservative Islamic fundamentalism has to be curbed. If laws need unification within India to achieve it, so be it. We should not have the co-existence of fundamental concepts and differences for any religion in India. Monuments and relics that have a historical context with India must be restored. The means of transport, air, rail and other means need to be strengthened to ensure excellent all-year connectivity with the rest of India. Setting up more railway stations, airports, etc, will go a long way in achieving that. Pakistan has to be shown the door on issues where no negotiation can be permitted/tolerated. At the same time, we must not stop dealing with the neighbour in a balanced manner and avoid getting into conflicts. The ground rules have to be very clear, and India should not be undermined. The displaced Kashmiri pandits need to be resettled, and businesses/industries must be allowed to grow in the state. Sale and transfer of land and property must be enabled/expedited through legal provisions to bring in demographic balance. Eventually there has to be de-escalation of the role of the army and paramilitary forces in Kashmir to ensure that its a place where people cherish to go. more
