Indian sports need immediate attention to improve our standing in the world. Today's Sunday time had an excellent advise from Mr Gurcharan Das "Separate legislators from the sports bodies". Like all other ills in our country, politicians meddling in sports is one of the main cause of all the ills in most of the sports bodies in India. Prime example is "Lalitgate" see how many politicians are involved. Any sport that starts generating Money (Remember worldwide Sports generate multibillion dollar), carpetbaggers like Srinivasan and Lalit modi and their political patrons jumps in. Not for the love of the sport but for money. I was a keen sportsman in my younger age and a sports administrator after I turned 40. I have seen the corruption in sports at close quarter. Fortunately a National sports code was passed by the parliament recently. What we need is strict enforcement of the sports code by all the sports bodies. Sports federations that violates Sports code should be punished. This will at least keep a check on the federations that need recognition to take part in international events like Olympic and Asian Games and financial help from the government. Alas this does not apply to cricket, as they have money and the game is not part of Olympic or Asian Games. Maj Gen S.Dutta VSM (retd) more

I have one more comment. Presently sport is a state subject not central or concurrent. National Sports code is made my the honourable sports minister and passed in the parliament. However actual control of sport is in the hand of state. It is imperative that sports is made a concurrent subjec for nbetter control. That will need amendment to constitution.
