1. Major drains could be covered and parks/parking spaces could be created over them
2. The municipality should make sure that there are no open drains in their area
3. The drainage system should be redesigned
4. The drainage pipes and the drinking water lines should be laid at a certain distance from each other
5. People should be educated about not dumping solid waste in drains
6. Desilting of the drains should be done 2-3 times every year
7. Street vendors should be fined if they are found throwing garbage into drains

FIRST PLASTIC BE BANNED FOR DOMESTIC USE AS IT CHOKES DRAINAGE PIPES AND THUS OVERFLOWING STARTS DURING RAIN ROADS ARE FLOODED WITH WATER CORPORATION CANNOT DO ALL THIS PEOPLE SHOULD LEARN MORE FROM THIS AND KEEP DRAINGE SYSTEM CLEAN more
Regarding drainage -- if corruption goes -- drains which have gown underground will be found with which drainage system will improve and flooding will be finished or reduced. All depends with eradication of corruption, this is again connected with teaching of civic sense. more
Is muncipal authority going to do this? answer NO. They are busy serving the slums and non tax payers thinking that tax payers are fools.
Sewage system shall fall to curruption. a seperate department should be handed over the assignment.

Very good solutions are given above. I would like to say that please start fine / challan on every garbage throwing in the drainage. No education can change any Indian either educated or uneducated. This I can say for sure. I have seen through my eyes there is no effect on student, youth, or old people of swachatha abhiyaan, They feel they have RIGHT to throw garbage on the road.

So only challan and fine can tight their screws.

The challan and fine can be imposed on RWA/ housing societies / House / Apartment - whenever any supervisor found garbage in front of the these, can charge a challan on that building.

Indian baaton se sudherane wale nahi he. more
I fully agree with Mr.Sanjay Rajauria. There should be a separa te storm water drain to let the drain water seep into ground. The toilet and other drain should be linked to treatment plants to free it of harmful chemicals before letting them into sea or river as the case may be more
