I had a chance to visit Crown Interior Mall at NH2, Faridabad. Got to see that many traders have advertised for sale discounts. Equally was surprised to see that the traders were also charging VAT on prices arrived after discounts. It is illegal to charge VAT on those prices as the same is already built up in the prices. Ant customer who has been charged VAT on those prices, may like to forward me the copy of the bill along with a complaint. This practice has to be stopped immediately. I promise I will be taking up the complaint with the concerned authorities so as to discipline such trading activities. It is worth stating here that I complained against SRS for charging an amount of Rs. 25/- or so as VAT on the 50% discounted product and a fine of Rs. 4,000/- was imposed on SRS for doing such practices. Please raise your voice against unethical trade practices. more

You may be right Virmani ji. As I have not much knowledge about consumer matters and VAT. I agree with you that MRP include all taxes and 50% discount mean 50% MRP. Keep it up Sir. Will Contact you in future for any such matter. Good Day. more

Dear Mr. Rajinder Singh Ji, There are two VATs in the transaction. One is built in the price and the other is being charged additionaly and separately. The 2nd VAT which is being charged separately must be getting deposited with VAT department and hence VAT deptt will not take any action against the trader. The first VAT which is already built in the price is being pocketed by the traders and hence Legal Metrology deptt. has to come into the action. My complaint against SRS was compounded at Rs. 4,000/- by the legal metrology deptt. Similary I had complained in Rohtak and Gurgaon and an amount of Rs. 40,000 has been compounded there also. more

Sir, I think you also file a complaint with the VAT Department. Actually I think, they are charging VAT on higher amount from us and not disclosing this to the VAT department. I am not dealing in VAT, so my knowledge about the VAT is limited. more

Dear Mr. Rajinder Singh Ji, Thanks for your keen interest in the post. Basically I feel the complaint lies with State Controllers of Legal Metrology. In fact I do not find much response from the consumers as no body comes forward with a complaint else I would have filed a class action before National Commission. When I raised the point in the Crown Interiorz Mall, no buyer took a keen interest in the point being raised by me. Nevertheless I have already complained to the Legal Metrology Department for taking necessary action against the traders charging additional VAT. I will update here with the outcome shortly. more

Dear Virmani ji. You are right. Thrice it happened with me at Ansal Plaza Faridabad and when I countered them being a CA they agree to correct the VAT amount. I also feel like filing a complaint but at the same time I also know the credence of VAT department. more
