I am a retired railway servant and reserved my return journey from Madurai to Kacheguda by 16354 of 8/12/15 more than a month back.(today). On account of my father in law's sudden illness late night who has been admitted in a hospital,I have to postpone my journey. On account of the new refund rules, neither I could apply for refund nor I could postpone my journey to a later date by the same or any other train. Worse still I had to forfeit entire amount.(PNR.4626455686). The Railway minister and his mandarins ,in order to boost the railway earnings, they armtwist the genuine passengers and planned and executed this day light robbery. The ostensible reason they have stated was to curb black marketing and goons activities. It's the other way of covering their inefficiency. On checking the genuiness of the passengers compulsions of cancelling the journey,50% of the fare is to be refunded. If my suggestion is felt reasonable and helpful to the genuine passengers, circle members are requested to petition the railway board to rescind its order. On the cancellation I have forfeited Rs.1610.

Dear Raman Sir, According to Bibek Debroy committee report, total wage bill for 2013-14 stood at Rs.76,242 crore. Manpower costs, including pension payouts, constitute 50 per cent of the Indian Railways’ cost. There is hardly any fund left for modernization. That's why Railway fare are so expensive and this is one of the reason Railway is loss making organisation. No organisation can run with such exorbitant wage bill. Indian Railways need to streamline manpower . I hope you will agree to my view point. more

The travelling public reserves the journey in advance in order to travel with comfort. Fares have become very high. This way, Railways collect crores of rupees and keeps it with them for upto 60 days. This money earns them huge amount of interest. Instead of giving any concession they charge you cancellation fee. On top of it the berth is allotted to someone who is already waiting, again by paying in advance. So they do not lose any thing. BAHUT NA INSAAFI HAI. INJUSTICE IN ABUNDANCE. This rule for cancellation should have been relaxed rather. Why do public suffer in silence? more
